Sara's restaurant life started in the summer of 1977 when she met a sweet, funny man who was the manager of her favorite after-work spot that offered 75 cent margaritas. His name was Ricky Tillman and before she knew what had hit her, she was swept off her feet and soon married.
The next year they subleased the Kings Club at the Adolphus and Ricky began his cooking career while his brother, Bill Tillman played the music and Sara took care of the money. From there Ricky started at The Fairmont Hotel, which led him to the world renowned Mansion on Turtle Creek and for the next 12 years he cooked in many famous kitchens.
Then in August of 1992, Ricky and Sara opened their dream, Tillman's Corner Restaurant in the Bishop Arts District of Oak Cliff. Most of the spaces were vacant and everyone told them they were out of their minds, but they were determined to make it work.
Sadly in July of 1997, Ricky passed away. Sara was devastated and afraid but determined to stay the course and see their vision through. All her staff committed to stay, she settled into her element and has been thriving ever since.
Sara loves the restaurant business! She loves meeting new people and treating them like family. She knows most of her customers by name and greets them with hugs and smiles.
